Abstract

The intense, often isolated nature of therapy work, in which we are exposed to sometimes disturbing or heart wrenching details can lead to the occupational hazard of compassion fatigue. Unfortunately, once this happens we may experience impaired clinical judgement and questionable ethical choices. This compassionate course is designed to help psychologists learn about compassion fatigue and whether it is impacting them and/or their clients. A plan to begin to recover is introduced, and psychologists are guided to create a preventative self-care plan to minimize reoccurrence in the future.
