OVERVIEW
Nîsohkamâtowin means “the act of helping one another” in Cree. Nîsohkamâtowin Psychology offers mental health services to First Nations communities in northern Alberta. Our objective is providing a two-eyed seeing approach to psychological services by honouring both indigenous and western ways of knowing and healing. We recruit qualified professionals passionate about providing essential mental health support to deserving communities. A community therapist works in the community health centre providing crisis counselling supports to individuals and families. Support may range from individual and group counselling to psycho-educational groups on topics such as parenting, anxiety, and grief support. Therapists in this position must have the competency and interest working through a variety of challenges with clients of diverse ages and drawn to the adventure of travelling and learning new things.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a Registered Clinical Social Worker or Registered Psychologist in good standing with their respective College.
- Experience working with indigenous children, adults and families is essential. We will also support the learning and support of a professional with a commitment to reconciliation and cultural learning.
- Flexibility and ability to travel to northern Alberta communities is essential.
- Clinical experience supporting a variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, anger management and addiction is essential.
- Must be able to work independently as a contractor and cooperatively within a team environment.
- Must be able to provide a criminal record check and have professional liability insurance and candidates will be supported to work toward approval through FNIHB.
CONTRACT
- Contract time per week depends on availability. Looking for 1 position of up to 3 to 4 days each week or 2 positions of 3 to 4 days every second week.
- Contract is based on experience and qualifications. Accommodation and travel are provided as part of the contract.
