Abstract | This presentation will discuss the cannabis addiction construct. Popular misconceptions related to cannabis addiction will be highlighted. It will also provide brief overviews of the benefits and harms related to cannabis use, as well as cannabis use disorder prevalence rates, etiology and remission, and treatment. Finally, it will discuss the complex relationship between cannabis and mental health disorders (i.e., depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, psychosis). |

![]() Dr. Jonathan N. SteaDr. Stea is a clinical psychologist with research and clinical expertise in addiction. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto, and completed his master's and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology at the University of Calgary. He has published peer-reviewed scientific research papers on topics related to cannabis, addiction, and mental health. For approximately the past 5 years, he has been providing assessment, treatment, supervision, and consultation services at the Addiction Centre at Foothills Medical Centre, which is a specialty outpatient program for concurrent addictive and psychiatric disorders. |
