Importance of Psychologist’s Self-Care
Have you ever wondered about how you manage your own self-care as a psychologist?
Ethical guidance for psychologists is to limit or not provide services to the public when impaired. Unfortunately, no clear definition of impairment is available among Canadian regulatory bodies, and minimal direction about self-care is provided. However, now more than ever is the time for self-care in light of COVID-19 and the substantial strain and stress faced by everyone, including psychologists. An accepted definition of impairment/health maintenance and promotion would serve to not only help protect the public but also to promote psychologists’ self-care and wellbeing.
