Abstract
Is private practice for you? If you are already in practice, how is your business sense? This workshop examines many aspects of being a successful private practitioner, from personal characteristics to marketing to selecting office space and the types of insurance you may need.
Intended Audience
This workshop is intended for psychologists, provisional psychologists, and graduate students in psychology.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
understand the personal skills and characteristics desirable for success in a private practice setting;
gain awareness of the multitude of practical (office rental and set-up, security, etc.) and business (marketing, partnership, financial, insurance, etc.);
increase knowledge of ethical and record keeping issues related to private practice;
enhance awareness of self-care issues related to private practice;
develop practical forms for use in private practice based upon samples.
Presenter
Dr. Stephen Carter
Dr. Stephen Carter has been in private practice since 1992 and was a founding partner in his own group practice which dates back to 1999 in Edmonton. He has presented on the topic of private practice many times over the past 27 years and developed an on-line private practice course for the Canadian Psychological Association. Dr. Carter is also an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Alberta in the department of Educational Psychology and is known for the practical nature of his presentations.
Cancellation and Refunds
Cancellation and refunds may be applied for by email or phone call to the PAA Continuing Professional Development Officer. Cancellations received fourteen (14) days prior to the Continuing Professional Development activity will receive a full refund of the registration fee, less a $35.00 + GST processing fee. PAA reserves the right to cancel any activity, in which case a full refund of the registration fee will be provided.
Continuing Education Credits
The Psychologists’ Association of Alberta (PAA) is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to offer Continuing Education (CE) for psychologists. This workshop is offered for six (6.0) hours of CE Credit. Full attendance at the workshop is required to receive Continuing Education Credits. Partial credit will not be awarded, and late arrivals or early departure will preclude awarding of Continuing Education Credits. PAA maintains responsibility for the program.
