Evidence-Based Practice: What It Is & How To Do It

August 15 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm MDT

The workshop provides an overview and practical application of the concept of evidence-based practice (EBP). Three major aspects of EBP will be emphasized: (1) empirically supported treatments (e.g., manualized and principle- based protocols), (2) evidence-based psychotherapy relationships and responsiveness, and (3) measurement-based care/routine outcome monitoring. Clinical application of each aspect of EBP will be illustrated via case examples, role play, and demonstration. There will be opportunities for discussion of challenges and means of incorporating evidence-based principles into your practice.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define and describe three major aspects/principles of evidence-based practice (empirically supported treatments, evidence-based psychotherapy relationships, routine outcome monitoring).
  2. Describe the major strengths and limitations of each principle.
  3. Learn to use a practice tool to assess your use of evidence-based practices and create a customized plan to strengthen your skill in one area of practice.
