Core Competencies for Formal Clinical Assessment Program – 40 CE Credits

The Core Competencies of Formal Clinical Assessment (CCFCA) course is LEVEL I of the Clinical Assessment Professional Certificate and designed to address the foundational knowledge, competencies, and ethical considerations necessary to practice formal psychological assessment prior to registering for the Applied Practice courses focusing on specialized areas of formal assessment.

Course topics include defining and understanding formal psychological assessment and practices, developing a personal theoretical model toward formal assessment, adhering to evidence-based practice in formal assessment, building a formal assessment test battery, conceptualizing case presentations and treatment planning, professional psychological reporting, and testifying in court.

Materials:

  • Students will be provided with access to the Learning Management System to access the digital materials for Core Competencies, this includes all handouts, additional video resources, quizzes, their final project and rubric.
  • We recommend students who attend in-person still bring a laptop, tablet, or their phone for some of the activities during the lectures.
  • Students will be granted access to Q-Interactive through our classroom license for the duration of the live lecture days of the Core Competencies course. Instructions will be sent out to students prior to the first live day of class.

Delivery Method:

The first two lecture days are delivered asynchronously via our Learning Management System. Students will have the opportunity to review the recorded lectures, submit reflections based on the assigned readings, and complete knowledge checks throughout this first module. Students may also participate in office hours prior to the scheduled live lecture dates. These office hours will be open to attend and will provide additional guidance for students who have questions about the learning management system, the quizzes, or their final assignment. The Office Hours schedule will be released at the same time as the live lecture dates.

Students have two options for attendance of the three live lecture days:

  • Virtually through zoom, students may attend the live lectures online.
  • In-person at our south Edmonton location – depending on the number of in-person attendants the location will be determined closer to the program start date.
