Clinical Health Psychology (CHP) is excited to be recruiting for a number of full-time permanent doctoral psychologist positions, related to significant government investment to expand psychological care in the health system in Manitoba.
CHP is centrally organized under the provincial health authority, Shared Health, and is responsible for psychological services throughout Manitoba; CHP is also an academic department in the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. CHP psychologists are based in hospitals, health centres and primary care clinics, providing clinical care across the lifespan from the very young to the elderly, for a wide range of mental health, developmental, and acute and chronic medical conditions. Psychologists in the Manitoba health system hold medical staff appointments along with our physician colleagues, and enjoy well-established collaborations with medical, nursing and allied health professionals to provide innovative and effective care. CHP psychologists connect regularly with each other, whether based in Winnipeg or in rural or northern health regions, and have a respectful and caring community of professional practice.

Standard Requirements for the positions include:
– Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from a CPA/APA-accredited program
– Completion of a CPA/APA-accredited internship/residency
– Registered or eligible for registration as a Psychologist (C.Psych.) in Manitoba www.cpmb.ca

HIGHLIGHTING SOME OF THE AVAILABLE POSITIONS
Adult- Bariatric Surgery Psychologist
The recently expanded Centre for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery offers comprehensive pre-operative evaluation plus post-op follow up that aims to maximize patient long-term success following bariatric surgery. The psychologist will provide pre-surgical readiness assessments, brief pre- and post-surgery psychological intervention, with opportunity for program development and evaluation.
Adult- Cardiac Psychologist
Cardiac Sciences Manitoba, consistently in the top national CIHI ratings for quality of care, provides coordinated cardiology and surgery services, and links to cardiac rehabilitation in the community. The psychologist will provide outpatient assessment and treatment for patients with cardiac diagnoses through the cardiac specialty clinics, as well as inpatient consult, and opportunity for service development.
Adult- Pain Psychologist
The Manitoba Pain Care Program is a multi-disciplinary, multi-site ‘hub-and-spoke’ provincial service committed to evidence-based, integrated care for adults with chronic pain. Behavioural pain treatment, delivered through a stepped approach, is at the centre of the newly expanded program’s model of care, coordinated with medical interventions. The pain psychologists on the team have an essential role providing assessment, class/group/individual therapies, as well as program development and evaluation.
Adult- Transplant Psychologist
The Transplant Manitoba teams are dedicated to excellence and innovation in perioperative transplant services. The psychologist, as part of the large organ transplant teams, will work with patients and living donors to provide pre-operative evaluation, readiness preparation, and post-transplant follow up to optimize transplant outcomes; includes assessment, treatment; opportunity for program development.
Child Specialty Assessment – Developmental Disorders (preschool) and/or FASD (school age) (2 positions)
Based at Specialized Services for Children and Youth (SSCY), the Psychologists are part of interprofessional teams inclusive of developmental pediatricians, nurses, and allied health. The psychologists will provide comprehensive and brief assessment, as well as consultation to the teams and families, with opportunity for clinical program development.
Child Specialty Consult/Intervention – Diabetes and/or Transgender Health (2 positions)
The compassionate, interprofessional teams of pediatric endocrinologists, nurses, psychologists and allied health staff work with children and families to support transgender health (GDAAY clinic– Gender Diversity and Affirming Action for Youth) and to optimize diabetes management (DERCA clinic– Diabetes Education Resource for Children and Adolescents). Based at Health Sciences Centre, the psychologists will provide assessment, treatment, and consultation to improve and care and outcomes.
Adult Community Mental Health (3 positions)
The Newcomer Collaborative Community Mental Health Team (Wpg) provides therapy and case management to newcomers who have experienced moderate to severe trauma to help promote recovery and resilience. The (Flexible) Assertive Community Treatment (FACT/ACT) teams (Wpg) offer wrap-around multidisciplinary care for adults with severe and persistent mental illness to maintain community living. The Community Mental Health & Addictions (CMH&A) team (Brandon) offers assessment and a range of treatment and group-based intervention for individuals experiencing mental health problems. In each of these programs, the psychologist provides consultation, assessment, and treatment; in addition, for FACTT/ACT and the Brandon CMH&A positions, the psychologist provides leadership in planning, development, and coordination of clinical services.
Lifespan Psychologist (2 positions)
Provision of direct clinical services across the lifespan and maximizing scope of practice through consultation to the teams are the focus of these two positions, one in the Interlake Eastern health region based in Oakbank (20 minute commute from Winnipeg), and one in the Prairie Mountain health region based in Dauphin (10 minute drive from Riding Mountain National Park). The psychologist works closely with the region’s child and adult mental health multidisciplinary teams, providing assessment, treatment, and consultation services, with opportunities for specialized program development such as DBT/ RO-DBT. Team consultation includes a focus on capacity building and provision of evidence-based care. The psychologist also provides leadership in development and evaluation of clinical services.
