As a comprehensive, cognitive behavioural treatment, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) consists of individual therapy, group skills training, a therapist consultation team, and between-session telephone coaching. Originally designed to help chronically suicidal individuals, DBT has become a well-supported treatment for clients with complex mental health problems.

DBT skills are increasingly being used to assist people also struggling with a variety of mental health problems, including suicidal and self-harming behaviours, borderline personality disorder, substance abuse, eating disorders, and treatment resistant depression.

The majority of this 2-day training will focus on each of the four skill modules, covering core skills in each module:
• Mindfulness: how to attend to, experience, and live in the present moment
• Emotion Regulation: how to understand and manage emotions
• Distress Tolerance: how to tolerate distress, avoid making things worse in a crisis, and accept reality as it is
• Interpersonal Effectiveness: how to build healthy relationships while maintaining self-respect
