Clinician

Job Summary
Wood's Homes is seeking a skilled, adaptable, and creative Clinician to join the Therapeutic Campus Based Care (TCBC) program. The role supports youth whose needs extend beyond traditional office-based service models and requires a clinician who can respond effectively in dynamic, real-world environments.
As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Clinician provides direct therapeutic services while collaborating closely with youth, families, caregivers, frontline staff, schools, healthcare providers, and community partners. The Clinician promotes safety, stability, engagement, and measurable progress for youth with complex mental health and behavioural needs while contributing to a supportive, learning-focused clinical environment.


Accountabilities and Competencies
Ability to establish therapeutic relationships with youth who may be resistant to, disengaged from, or unsuccessful in traditional office-based clinical services.
Sound clinical judgment and the ability to think critically in dynamic and rapidly changing situations.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based, attachment-focused, harm reduction, culturally responsive, and person-centred approaches.
Ability to adapt evidence-based interventions to meet developmental, cognitive, communication, behavioural, and cultural needs.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including timely, clear, and high-quality clinical documentation.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, families, caregivers, schools, healthcare providers, and community partners.
Professional boundaries, emotional resilience, self-awareness, flexibility, creativity, and responsiveness.
Commitment to reflective practice, staff learning, quality improvement, and the mission, vision, and values of Wood’s Homes.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Assessment and Intervention
Provide direct clinical services to youth through individual, family, group, and community-based intervention and therapy.
Complete comprehensive clinical assessments, including functional behaviour, mental health, and risk assessments.

Develop and support individualized treatment goals, safety plans, behavioural support strategies, and transition recommendations in collaboration with the broader care team.
Provide flexible, creative, and responsive interventions in homes, schools, recreational environments, community locations, and other natural settings.
Assess and respond effectively to crisis situations while maintaining therapeutic engagement, emotional safety, and professional judgment.


Consultation and Clinical Leadership
Provide ongoing consultation, coaching, and mentorship to frontline staff regarding complex youth presentations and clinical intervention strategies.

Support staff in translating clinical theories, assessments, formulations, and evidence-based practices into practical day-to-day interactions and interventions.
Assist teams in understanding the interplay between developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, substance use, trauma, attachment, and behavioural presentations.
Facilitate case consultations, clinical risk reviews, and collaborative treatment planning processes.
Promote reflective practice and skill development among direct service staff.


Collaboration, Documentation, and Program Support
Work collaboratively with families, caregivers, schools, healthcare providers, Indigenous supports, community partners, and internal program teams.
Maintain timely, high-quality clinical documentation and reports in accordance with professional and organizational requirements.
Contribute to staff learning, research initiatives, quality improvement, specialized projects, and ongoing clinical development as assigned.


Health and Safety
Actively promote the Health and Safety Management System.
Comply with all Wood’s Homes health and safety policies and procedures.
Participate in workplace safety initiatives, hazard identification, clinical risk review, and safety planning processes as required.


Working Conditions
Work is performed in community-based and non-traditional settings, including homes, schools, recreational environments, and other locations where youth live, learn, and connect.
Environments may involve emotional intensity, conflict, crisis, or rapidly changing circumstances.
The role requires flexibility in supporting youth with significant barriers to engagement while maintaining professional boundaries and emotional safety.
A valid Alberta Class 5 or Class 5 GDL driver's licence, automobile insurance with $2 million liability coverage, and a driver's abstract with no more than six demerits are required.


Qualifications
Education
Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, or a related clinical discipline is required. Current registration and good standing with the applicable professional regulatory body are required.


Experience
Clinical experience supporting youth with dual diagnosis, developmental disabilities, complex mental health presentations, substance use disorders, trauma, attachment disruption, acute behavioural challenges, and concurrent mental health and neurodevelopmental needs.
Experience conducting clinical assessments and developing practical treatment plans and recommendations.
Formal psychological assessment experience is considered a strong asset.
Experience providing flexible, creative, and responsive interventions in community and natural settings.
Experience providing clinical consultation, coaching, or mentorship to frontline staff is an asset.

 

Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based, attachment-focused, harm reduction, culturally responsive, and person-centred approaches.
Ability to adapt evidence-based interventions to the developmental, cognitive, communication, and behavioural needs of youth.
Ability to assess and respond effectively to crisis situations while maintaining therapeutic engagement and emotional safety.
Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, risk assessment, consultation, and documentation skills.
Ability to build meaningful therapeutic relationships with youth who may be reluctant to participate in traditional counselling.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
