A Primer on Tele-Assessment for Psychologists: Best Practices, Tools, and Ethical Considerations
As psychological assessment increasingly shifts into virtual spaces, psychologists must adapt their practices to ensure validity, reliability, and ethical integrity. This 3-hour webinar offers a comprehensive primer on tele-assessment, equipping clinicians with foundational knowledge and practical tools to conduct psychological assessments remotely. Topics will include the selection and adaptation of assessment tools for virtual administration, managing technology and environment-related variables, maintaining test security, and addressing consent and cross-jurisdictional practice. Case examples and emerging research will be used to highlight challenges and innovations in the field. Designed for psychologists new to tele-assessment or those seeking to refine their current practices, this session will also provide space for Q&A and professional discussion.
Learning Objectives
- Identify appropriate psychological tests and tools that can be reliably and validly administered in a tele-assessment context.
- Describe the technical, ethical, and procedural considerations involved in conducting assessments remotely, including informed consent, test security, and data privacy.
- Evaluate the impact of the virtual environment on client behavior and test performance, and implement strategies to mitigate confounding variables.
- Apply best practices for managing tele-assessment logistics, such as setting up the client’s environment, troubleshooting technology issues, and ensuring standardization.
- Understand current regulatory guidance and jurisdictional considerations for conducting tele-assessment across regions.
