Adding Assessment as a Competency 1 CE-Credit – Virtual

November 26 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm MST

Abstract

This webinar will provide an introduction to the practice of assessment in psychology. Participants will gain an understanding of the different types of assessment, the purposes for conducting assessments, and an overview of the process and the end result. Participants will learn about the logistics and qualifications for integrating formal assessment as a professional competency. By the end of this presentation, participants should have a good sense of whether they wish to pursue formal training in assessment. Even if participants decide not to pursue further training, they will come away from the presentation able to explain the purpose and process of assessment to their clients, helping clients find appropriate support.

This webinar serves as the first of 12 modules in a broader course on building foundational knowledge. At the end of the webinar, participants will have a better sense of what it takes to add assessment as a competency. If they decide to take the broader course, they will develop an understanding of the history of assessment; culturally responsive assessment processes; cognitive, academic, social, emotional, behavioural, neuropsychological, and attentional assessment practices and measures; and the overall process of conducting assessments from intake through to report writing and debriefing results. Participants who take the whole course will have a strong grounding in assessment theory and will be strong candidates for supervised practice (supervisors will need to teach actual administration of measures themselves, but participants will come equipped with familiarity with commonly used assessments and proficiency in theory and understanding.

The full course will launch in November.
