Beyond the Code of Ethics: Navigating Real-World Dilemmas – 6 CE-Credits

May 24 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm MDT
Abstract

The practice of psychotherapy presents psychologists with a plethora of nuanced ethical dilemmas that demand more than theoretical knowledge and aspirational principles. This interactive, full-day workshop delves deeper into four critical areas: client/patient documentation requests (disability, medical leave and/or accommodations), multidisciplinary collaboration, multiple relationships, and effective advocacy. Through roundtable discussions and case-based examples, participants will build upon the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists and develop practical strategies and insights to address these complex clinical situations with more confidence.

Intended Audience

Registered psychologists and registered provisional psychologists in clinical practice offering psychotherapy.

Learning Objectives
  • Identify ethical challenges within the four specified domains and their associated ethical principles.
  • Explore practical tools and frameworks to ethically respond to client/patient documentation requests.
  • Enhance collaboration and navigate ethical complexities within multidisciplinary settings
  • Discuss best practices in managing multiple relationships.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of advocacy’s role in empowering clients/patients and advancing the profession.
