Breaking the OCD Cycle: The Power of Exposure and Response Prevention – 6 CE Credit

October 20, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm MDT
Abstract
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is not rare and it typically starts early in life.  Too often it goes undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for many years.  Clients living with OCD are often offered therapy strategies that actually backfire and make their symptoms worse. In this workshop, we will be discussing the gold standard treatment for OCD called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). This evidence-based therapy is significantly underutilized by mental health practitioners.  The workshop provides an overview of family-based ERP treatment planning for OCD and anxiety issues.
Intended Audience
All mental health professionals, including psychologists, psychiatrists, family physicians, pediatricians, social workers, and other health professionals and students who would like to learn practical, proven methods to enhance their therapeutic skills with teens and adults living with OCD and anxiety.
Learning Objectives
  • Understand the essentials of exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy and its effectiveness in treating OCD.
  • Learn the key components of an ERP therapy program and how paradoxical treatment can reduce OCD symptoms and anxiety.
  • Learn how to apply exposure and response prevention techniques in real-world situations with case presentations.
  • Learn about the problem of family accommodation and how to engage family members for the best results.
  • Provide educational resources for clinicians and their clients.
