Outcome Informed Interdisciplinary Addiction and Mental Health Treatment – Virtual

October 10, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm MDT
Abstract

Transforming Health Care Through Innovation!

Medically Managed Intensive Outpatient Programming

The data is clear! People are struggling with mental health conditions and away from work like never before, and the related costs are skyrocketing.

  • 2-in-5 Canadians live with a mental health disorder, and 1-in-2 will have had or are currently living with a mental health disorder.
  • 500,000 Canadians miss work every week due to mental health concerns.
  • Approximately 8 million Canadians suffer from addiction, and 10 Canadians die in hospital every day from substance use, where 75% of that is related to alcohol use.
  • Significant wait lists for many specialists, which delays treatment, recovery, and returning to the workplace.

By fusing a bio-psycho-social-spiritual treatment model in an innovative, medically managed intensive outpatient program model, people can overcome deeply embedded traumas that prevent them from living fully in their everyday lives. Dr. Tanguay will explain how mental wellness can be achieved for those experiencing Mood Disorders, PTSD, Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, and Chronic Pain conditions with evidence-based psychotherapy delivered by an interdisciplinary medical team. He will explore the evidence of the innovative intensive outpatient program designed to resolve the symptoms of these often treatment resistant disorders and support people to return to work and their healthy lives in a timely manner.

The research is clear: medically managed Intensive Outpatient Programs do speed the rate of recovery for many people suffering from these conditions, which will:

  • Reduce the duration of disability;
  • Increase disability recovery rates; and
  • Shorten the period of time for the employee to return to work and live a healthy life, which will ultimately reduce the costs incurred by plan members and plan sponsors.
Learning Objectives
  • The participant will be able to describe the evidence of medically managed Intensive Outpatient Programs for occupational and non-occupational psychological injuries, addiction, and chronic pain;
  • The participant will be able to evaluate Intensive Outpatient Programming and apply education to clients on what to expect and
  • The participant will critique novel protocols, including rotating therapists, transdiagnostic treatment, and transdisciplinary organizations.
