Abstract

This session explores how cultural identity, cultural practices, and intergenerational connections influence psychological health. Participants will learn culturally responsive strategies, including social prescribing, community-based mental health supports, and mind-body approaches tailored to diverse cultures. Through case studies and interactive discussions, this session equips psychologists with practical tools to reduce distress and promote thriving in older adults across cultural contexts.

Learning Objectives

Primary Focus: Addressing mental well-being and distress in older adults, using culturally responsive approaches.

Presenter

Dr. Rose Joudi

Dr. Rose Joudi (Ph.D. Psych.) is an aging and ethnic diversity researcher, consultant, and international speaker on ethnocultural diversity, elder abuse and ageism. Dr. Joudi developed a program focusing on ethnocultural older adult mistreatment and abuse for the province of Alberta and is currently working at Carya as Project Manager for The Way In Network (TWIN) which is a collaboration of Calgary-based agencies that are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and access to services and support for vulnerable older adults living in the community and their families. Dr. Joudi is also a current board member of the Alberta Association on Gerontology (AAG) and is an advisor for Alberta’s Ministry of Seniors, Community, and Social Services.

Cancellation and Refunds

Cancellation and refunds may be applied for by email or phone call to the PAA Continuing Professional Development Officer.  Cancellations received fourteen (14) days prior to the Continuing Professional Development activity will receive a full refund of the registration fee, less a $35.00 + GST processing fee. PAA reserves the right to cancel any activity, in which case a full refund of the registration fee will be provided.

Continuing Education Credits

The Psychologists’ Association of Alberta (PAA) is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to offer Continuing Education (CE) for psychologists. This workshop is offered for three (3.0) hours of CE Credit. Full attendance at the workshop is required to receive Continuing Education Credits. Partial credit will not be awarded, and late arrivals or early departure will preclude awarding of Continuing Education Credits. PAA maintains responsibility for the program.
