How to Cope with COVID-19 This Holiday Season
Albertans are strong and resilient – this has been proven many times over the years. We are currently faced with “an invisible enemy” like most of us have never experienced which can be frightening and anxiety-provoking. It is normal to experience strong emotions in times of uncertainty like this, especially when approaching a time of year that is usually full of family, friends, and community. This holiday season will be one like no other, one to remain connected while apart.
The Psychologist’ Association of Alberta is here to help Albertans experiencing distress due to the COVID -19 Pandemic over the holidays. Psychologists are experts in stress and anxiety management, and we encourage all Albertans to take a deep breath and follow these simple steps to ease your mind and promote your psychological health this holiday season:
Try to focus on what is most important to you during this time and on what you do have control over. We must all practice social distancing, and perhaps self-isolation, but we get to decide how we spend that time and what we choose to dwell on. For most of us that includes love, community, family, and rest. Still, struggling? Professional help is available.
