Suicide is the leading cause of maternal death in the first year following childbirth. This workshop will be most useful for clinicians who work with any individuals of reproductive age, as 1 in 7 women will develop a perinatal mood disorder and 1/3 of those who do, already are seeking care for a pre-existing mental health condition. This workshop will address the basic concepts of what perinatal mood disorders are, how to assess them, recognizing warning signs and when to refer treatment to a specialist.
