
Dr. William E. Hanson, R.Psych
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Bill Hanson is Chief Executive Officer of the Psychologists' Association of Alberta (PAA), where he leads and manages the largest provincial, territorial, or state psychological association in North America. Additionally, he is Chair of the Board, Council of Professional Associations of Psychologists (CPAP), which supports psychologists nationally and advocates for the profession. As Board Chair of CPAP, he serves on ACRPO-CPA's Steering Committee on training and education issues in Canada. In 2024/25, Dr. Hanson served as Acting Assistant Deputy Registrar at CAP in credentials, continuing competence, and regulatory navigation. He served a 3-year term on CAP's Practice Advisory Committee and has conducted multiple investigations and ethics practice reviews of alleged misconduct. Currently, he serves on CAP's Diagnosis and Assessment Task Force. The majority of his 30+ year career, however, was in academia, working through tenured professorial ranks and, at various times, directing/coordinating four different doctoral programs in Clinical/Counselling psychology. As a professor, he was an award-winning teacher and researcher with over 25,000 citations of his publications. Clinically, he's interested in Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessment (C/TA), Measurement-Based Care (MBC), and leadership development.
