Campus Representatives

Being a Campus Representative is a great way to cultivate a better understanding of PAA and the role of the association as well as gain leadership experience while connecting with other students in psychology. These positions are also very rewarding; they provide the opportunity to network with psychologists working in a variety of capacities within Alberta as well as establish a foundation within the profession of psychology prior to the completion of your degree. The PAA Campus Representative positions are open to students who are:

  1. PAA Student Members. If an applicant is not already a PAA Student member, they must complete the online membership application to become a student member prior to applying to fill the role of PAA Campus Representative.
  2. Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate psychology or psychology-related (e.g., educational psychology) program at a college/university within Alberta.
  3. Available to volunteer for a one-year term (May-April); work in collaboration with other PAA Campus Representatives and promote the PAA, including the association’s services and benefits.

University of Alberta 

Ahad Asad

Ahad is a first-year Masters of Counselling student at the University of Alberta. He is interested in emotional regulation and providing therapies to underrepresented populations in his communities. His long term goal is to create safe spaces for individuals and provide therapy and other resources to elivate immidate crises. As a PAA campus representative, he hopes to better inform and support students at the UofA in their understanding of psychological careers and practices. In his free time, Ahad enjoys painting, baking and most importantly, making others laugh.

 

Erin Greenough

Erin is a first year Masters of Education student in the University of Alberta’s Counselling Psychology program. Graduating from the UofA with a Bachelor of Design in 2015, Erin initially worked as an artist and graphic designer. She returned to the UofA for an after degree in psychology in 2019, completing her honours thesis on mindfulness and narcissism in 2022. Throughout the years, Erin has been involved at the UofA in a variety of roles, including volunteering, mentoring, peer reviewing, and assisting with teaching. Erin hopes her various experiences at the University of Alberta will allow her to connect a broad range of students with the PAA, fostering valuable events and resources for students to learn about the field of psychology. While studying, Erin also works with the Canadian Mental Health Association (Edmonton Region) supporting volunteers and individuals in crisis. In her spare time, she enjoys playing music, cycling, and sipping a good cup of coffee. 

University of Alberta

Alyssa Ma

Alyssa is an undergraduate student currently completing an Honours in Psychology at the University of Alberta. Her research interests lie in behavioural regulation and play in children. As a PAA undergraduate representative, Alyssa hopes to bring awareness to psychology communities that undergraduate students can connect with and to foster relationships with these students. In her free time, Alyssa tries to be healthy by going on daily walks but mostly ends up watching Netflix with her cats.

 

 

University of Calgary

Athina Spiropoulos

Athina is currently enrolled in a combined degree with a BSc in Psychology and BCR in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies at the University of Calgary, graduating in June 2023. Currently working on her honours thesis in psychosocial oncology, Athina is interested in pursuing Clinical Psychology in graduate school with the goal of researching and utilizing emerging psychotherapy techniques to improve the lives of people living with mental illness and cognitive disability. She hopes to provide people with tools they can use to reach their goals and help them develop a sense of personal autonomy and competency through holistic and mindful practice. As a PAA Campus Representative, Athina aims to foster a welcoming, engaging, and honest space for students to explore career paths and develop a deeper understanding of the field of psychology. Athina’s hobbies include jiu jitsu, bird watching, and reading.

Abigail Marsh

I am a fourth-year psychology student at the University of Calgary. I have a deep love of learning and an insatiable curiosity. My career objective is to foster and support education and well-being in children and families. The last year as a PAA student representative has been a powerful source of support and insight. I look forward to another year of creating, sharing, and connecting with peers. My favourite activities for a study break include painting, singing, and reading with my two young children. 

 

 


Athabasca University

Bonnie Mitchell (She/Her) 

Bonnie is an undergraduate student at Athabasca University working on a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Psychology and Anthropology. After wrapping up a 16-year career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police assigned to the Operational Communication Centre as a 911 and Police Dispatcher, she has now set her sights on helping fell

ow First Responder, Law Enforcement, and Emergency Services workers cope with the trauma faced on the job. Bonnie volunteers her time advocating for RCMP and CAF members as they seek access to resources to treat both the physical and operational stress injuries sustained in the execution of their duties. She hopes to continue this important work w

ith a more powerful impact after becoming a registered psychologist. In her role as a PAA Campus Representative for Athabasca University, Bonnie hopes to lend her passion for advocacy to her fellow students, working as a subject matter resource for all things PAA. She wants people to know that it is ok to not know everything. Let’s figure this out toget

her! Collaboration is key and together we can achieve more in this academic journey. In her spare time, Bonnie is busy with her faithful companion, a Labradoodle named Clyde. Bonnie and Clyde can usually be found adventuring anywhere they can find a local trail or riverside, located on the Indigenous ancestral territory represented by Treaties 6 & 7 and the traditional territory of Region 3 of the Metis Nation.
