Psychologists’ Association of Alberta wishes to lend a supporting hand to clinical supervision psychologists. We recognize that only well-supervised professionals will provide high-quality psychological services in the future.
All Alberta psychologists must complete 1,600 hours of supervised and evaluated practice before becoming fully registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). The supervision must be recorded, reported, and follow CAP regulations.
Clinical Supervision is a cornerstone of the training of psychologists and mental health professionals. It means that the work of a provisional psychologist (a person who has completed their education but is still in the process of training to become a psychologist) is reviewed by an experienced mental health professional. Supervision of new psychologists aims to protect the general public, support the integrity of the ethical practice of psychology, place client wellness first, further develop the skills of psychologists, and evaluate their progress.
