This workshop will have both a professional and personal emphasis. Professionally, it is intended for those who are interested in learning more about working with older clients and their families. Personally, it will explore participants’ own planning for future aging and negotiating age-related transitions such as retirement.
This workshop will combine didactic instruction, case presentations, and reflective exercises to address the following questions:
Candace Konnert, Ph.D., R. Psych., is a Professor Emerita of Psychology at the University of Calgary. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (with a specialty in Aging) from the University of Southern California. Dr. Konnert has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in aging and clinical psychology and remains actively involved in the supervision of graduate students. She particularly enjoys giving presentations to community groups and professional workshops on various topics related to healthy aging. Dr. Konnert has served as the Director of Training and the Practicum/Internship Coordinator for the clinical psychology program at the University of Calgary. She is the recipient of the University of Calgary, Department of Psychology Undergraduate Research Supervision Award (2018), the University of Calgary Students’ Union Excellence in Teaching Award (2016), and the Canadian Council of Professional Psychology Programs Excellence in Training Award (2014). Dr. Konnert is a co-author of the textbook Adult Development & Aging (2nd Canadian edition, 2021, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.) and has published widely on topics such as the prevention of depression in nursing home residents, family-staff conflict in long-term care, body satisfaction among middle-aged and older women, barriers to accessing mental health care, and, most recently, planning for future aging. Her research has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Her passions in life include hiking, skiing, fly-fishing, and travelling the world.
Cancellation and refunds may be applied for by email or phone call to the PAA Continuing Professional Development Officer. Cancellations received fourteen (14) days prior to the Continuing Professional Development activity will receive a full refund of the registration fee, less a $35.00 + GST processing fee. PAA reserves the right to cancel any activity, in which case a full refund of the registration fee will be provided.
The Psychologists’ Association of Alberta (PAA) is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to offer Continuing Education (CE) for psychologists. This workshop is offered for six (6.0) hours of CE Credit. Full attendance at the workshop is required to receive Continuing Education Credits. Partial credit will not be awarded, and late arrivals or early departure will preclude awarding of Continuing Education Credits. PAA maintains responsibility for the program.
