Obsessive-compulsive disorder is not rare and it typically starts early in life. Too often it goes undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for many years.
PAA Ethics Round Tables (PERT), is a peer-support program to enhance ethical professional practice and decision making.
This program is not intended to provide clinical supervision nor to offer an expert opinion or detailed consultation on one specific case. This program is not personalized professional guidance such as that offered by the College of Alberta Psychologist’s Professional Guidance program nor is it one-to-one practice advisor support such as that offered by the PAA Practice Advisor Program. These sessions will not be recorded, and minutes or notes will not be taken.

DBT is the gold standard treatment for severe emotion dysregulation, particularly for clients who are at high risk for suicide or who have multiple comorbidities. This workshop will begin with a description of the transdiagnostic biosocial model of emotion dysregulation and how this theory informs case conceptualization and treatment
Psychological practice invariably leads to encounters with third parties and organizations requesting access to our work: From a client requesting a simple treatment summary letter, to a lawyer’s request for a copy of a clinical file and even a subpoena to appear in Court. Most of us practice with the hopes of avoiding these types of situations—leaving us ill prepared to respond to them when they do and potentially exposing us to professional disciplinary action.

Dr. Tanguay will explain how mental wellness can be achieved for those experiencing Mood Disorders, PTSD, Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, and Chronic Pain conditions with evidence-based psychotherapy delivered by an interdisciplinary medical team.
Assessment and counselling are integral components of the psychotherapy process. Assessment occurs in the initial stages and is often ongoing to inform the psychotherapy process. Topics for this workshop will include mental status examinations, psychometrics, screening measures, and limitations of self-report. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a broader understanding of general assessments for psychotherapists.
This talk is designed to appeal broadly to psychologists in general practice. The talk is designed to help psychologists better understand the different ways/means that they might be called as a witness for court or some other legal proceeding.
